Frequently Asked Questions

(Bookkeeping for Attorneys & Law Firms)

What types of law firms do you work with?

I work with solo attorneys and small to mid-sized law firms that want clean, compliant financial systems. Whether you manage a few retainers or multiple attorneys, I’ll help ensure your books and trust accounts are accurate and organized.

Do you handle IOLTA or trust accounting?

Yes — it’s my specialty. I provide full IOLTA and client-trust accounting, including 3-way reconciliations, sub-ledger tracking, and integration with LawPay, TimeSolv, Bill4Time, or Clio. Your trust balances, client ledgers, and bank records will align perfectly every month.

What if my books are messy or behind?

That’s completely normal. Most clients come to me in that position. I start with a Law-Firm Financial Assessment to identify errors, cleanup needs, and compliance risks, then bring everything current before moving into ongoing monthly bookkeeping.

What does it cost to work with you?

I offer two core bookkeeping packages designed for law firms:

  • Basic Bookkeeping (no trust accounting): starting at $600/month

  • Premium Bookkeeping (includes IOLTA accounting and 3-way reconciliations): starting at $1,200/month

Before starting monthly services, I conduct a Law-Firm Financial Assessment and Setup Review to evaluate your books, identify issues, and define the exact scope of work. The review costs $297 and includes a detailed analysis of your financial records, trust accounts, and workflow integrations.

If you move forward with monthly services, the $297 is applied to your first invoice, making the review effectively free.

If cleanup or setup work is needed—such as catching up prior months or rebuilding IOLTA ledgers—pricing will be provided after the review, based on findings and complexity.

What software do you use?

I work exclusively in QuickBooks Online and am a certified ProAdvisor. I’m also trained in LawPay, TimeSolv, Bill4Time, and Clio to ensure all billing and trust transactions sync properly. Payroll runs through Gusto, which integrates directly with QBO.

How does the process work?

  1. Step 1 – Free Q&A Call: We’ll discuss your firm’s current setup and challenges.

  2. Step 2 – Financial Assessment: I review your books, diagnose issues, and provide a cleanup or monthly quote.

  3. Step 3 – Ongoing Support: Your books and trust accounts are reconciled and verified by the 15th of each month—or that month’s on me.

Will I work directly with you?

Yes. You’ll work directly with me, Joshua, for all communication, reviews, and oversight. My team supports internal workflows behind the scenes—so nothing falls through the cracks and your firm always receives personal attention.

Do you understand bar-association compliance rules?

Absolutely. I’ve studied IOLTA and trust-accounting standards across multiple states and complete CE related to trust accounting compliance annually. My workflows are designed to meet bar-association requirements and protect your firm from compliance errors or audit risk.

Are you a CPA or tax preparer?

I’m a professional bookkeeper and EA candidate (currently pursuing Enrolled Agent certification). I understand how your books impact your tax position but do not file tax returns. I collaborate smoothly with your CPA or tax preparer when needed.

Do you offer CFO or advisory services?

Not at this time. My focus is on accurate, compliant bookkeeping that creates the financial foundation your advisory or tax team can rely on.

Do you handle payroll?

Not directly. I’ve partnered with a full-service payroll firm and a SaaS provider to ensure payroll is handled accurately and in compliance. My role is to make sure payroll data is properly integrated and reflected in your books.

How long does onboarding take?

Most firms are fully onboarded and organized within the guaranteed timeframe (generally 60 days). The exact timing depends on the condition of your books and how quickly information is provided. Prompt communication helps us deliver full financial clarity as efficiently as possible.

What’s your “Clarity Guarantee”?

Your firm will have clean, reconciled books and verified trust balances delivered within the guaranteed timeframe (generally 60 days).

If I don’t deliver that level of clarity within the guaranteed timeframe, you’ll receive two free months of service plus a 10% refund on your last payment.

What happens during the Free Q&A Call?

It’s a relaxed, no-pressure conversation. I’ll ask questions to better under your firms situation and needs and you’ll get an opportunity to ask any bookkeeping or IOLTA questions you have. Then, if it seems like a good fit, I’ll explain the next steps so you can decide if you’d like to move forward or not—no obligation.
